Obsession of the Week | Dating Rules From My Future Self

Anyone who knows me (or reads my blog regularly) knows how much I absolutely love The Vampire Diaries. Well, the actress who plays Caroline (Candice Accola) is this season’s main character on a new show called “Dating Rules from My Future Self.”

Dating Rules is a web series created by Alloy Entertainment (the same creators of great things like Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, etc…).  There are two “seasons” of the show, which is comprised of 10-ish minute episodes. I’ve officially watched all of them and am quite anxious for new ones to come out.

The premise is pretty funny — the main character of each season communicates via text and FaceTime with an older version of herself. Grown up versions of the characters provide advice about how to navigate the crazy world of dating.

The first season, the main character was actress Shiri Appleby, who a few people may recognize from the CW show Life Unexpected (another show I loved, that unfortunately met its demise after only 2 seasons).

So far, season 2 has been pretty funny with Candice as the main character.  From her “margarita maker” (a blender) named José, to her problematic addiction to Cheetos, Candice’s character Chloe is simply hilarious.

Overall, Dating Rules from My Future Self definitely has some great humor written into it, particularly because they include some of the comical aspects of living life in the modern age where having “The Jimmy Song” posted on your Facebook wall is thought to be the most humiliating thing that could happen to a 20-something!

Twitter Love | Joel McHale

If you are a regular watcher of the E! Network (like I am)– home to the Kardashians, Mrs. Eastwood & Co., Chelsea Lately, and Fashion Police you are probably quite familiar with The Soup.

The Soup is a show hosted by Joel McHale that satirizes current events and pop culture.

While watching a recent episode this afternoon I felt the urge to tweet about just how funny I thought Joel was — turned out, this was a great idea! Why? Because of this…..

That’s right, Joel McHale direct messaged me back on Twitter after having seen my posting about how hilarious he is on the show.

In case you can’t read it… I wrote “watching @thesoup and can’t stop laughing. love @joelmchale … he has great #comedictiming

He responded with “merci. merci”

As Rachel Zoe would say… I die.

This was not the first time I’ve been lucky enough to have  a celeb respond on twitter. If you’ll recall I previously bloggedabout the response I received from Giada De Laurentiis

Obsession of the Week | Vampire Diaries

I promise I am not one of those people who is insanely obsessed with vampires or other sci-fi stuff, but I have recently become obsessed with the TV show, Vampire Diaries. Yes, I know I’ve been blogging about Breaking Dawn a lot lately, but I swear it is only a temporary addiction.  I would like to blame Netflix for this current obsession because they included Vampire Diaries in my “Suggestions for You” section a few weeks ago, and since then I’ve watched all the episodes in my spare time.

For those of you unfamiliar with the series, it is on the CW, which is one of my favorite channels for really terrible, yet wonderfully dramatic shows (i.e. Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and the cancelled show, Life Unexpected). Vampire Diaries is currently on its third season, and the drama has only gotten more intense with each passing season.

These three are the main characters in the series: Paul Wesley (Stefan), Nina Dobrev (Elena), and Ian Somerhalder (Damon).

Old School Commercials

This weekend has been 100% homework focused and one of my papers was for a communication criticism class.  While searching for the perfect commercial to analyze I came across some old favorites that I thought I’d share with all of you!

Do you remember this Godfather themed Pepsi ad? I used to think it was the funniest thing on TV. Kapeesh?!

The End of an Era | Andy Rooney

Sunday evenings, for as long as I can remember, have included the sound of a ticking clock.  Just like a favorite blanket, the smell of homemade cookies, or an old photo, this sound envokes a deep feeling of fond memories for me.

That ticking comes from the longest running news magazine on TV: 60 Minutes. My parents–both news nuts–religiously watch the show every week.  Obviously, when I was little the detailed reports often lead to an early bedtime (on the couch) for me, but I always hung around simply waiting until the last few minutes. Why? Because of this man:

Andy at his desk--how I envision him.

Waka Waka?

Blogging world do you know what Waka Waka is? Well, incase you are out of the loop, it is only one of my favorite new songs!  Waka Waka is Shakira’s song for the 2010 World Cup (which by the way begins June 11th!!!).  So because I am in love with this song, as well as some others, I decided that I would make a list of my 5 favorite songs that I am listening to this week.  I would love to see your list bloggers, so post a comment because I am ALWAYS looking for new music :)

Waka Waka by Shakira—-this is a great song to workout to, very motivational!

Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare) by Kid Cudi—-yes, I love this song because of the Vitamin Water commercials… don’t judge me!

Can’t Be Tamed by Miley Cyrus—no comment :P

California Gurls by Katy Perry —I am a California girl (16 years counts right?), and regardless of where you are from, this is definitely the song of the summer.  I love the fast beat and summery feel of it!

If We Ever Meet Again by Timbaland & Katy Perry—LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. period.

**All of these songs can be found on iTunes or Rhapsody–whatever your music purchasing venue of choice is :D

Will it never end?

So I’m doing homework (and have been for almost 5 hours already!) and I am sick and tired of it, so I decided to post a blog entry to see who else was avoiding homework right along with me (or avoiding anything you know you should be doing)! :D Yes, I really am that bad of a procrastinator (although I do always get my stuff done in the nick of time).  Thankfully, I finished my biology portfolio, but very unfortunately I have yet to read any of the assigned book we have for my history class (Murder in Amsterdam) or write the paper that goes along with it–due tomorrow by noon.  Have you read that book? Any insight? I think instead of starting I may do some laundry or go to the gym, maybe reorganize my closet… oh the possibilities of procrastination.  Amazing Race ended so I don’t even have a show to watch tonight to take me away from homework later. Grrr. Will the homework never end? Will summer ever come, I’m ready for the beach and sunshine (see photo)? Going to work is so much better, I get paid to do stuff… and I enjoy it a whole lot more!
