A Little Taste of Nature

It’s been a busy January so I haven’t been able to put pen to paper (fingers to computer?) for my blog as often as I might have liked. Fortunately, I have been able to soak up some of California’s wonderful weather and take a few hikes outside with Buddy.

I thought I’d share some of my favorite Instagram photos from my time in the golden hills of California.

Happy Birthday California

162 years ago today, my favorite state became a state. So I just want to say….

Obsession of the Week | Buddy

well blogging world, my obsession of the week is my newest family member: Buddy.

Buddy is blonde, has brown eyes, and is fluffy all over.

Yes, that’s right Buddy is a golden retriever.

Originally Buddy came from a Los Angeles animal shelter, but I got him from Homeward Bound Golden Retriever in Elverta.  He also had a strange name: Isis — obviously that had to go.

Anyway…

it seemed like fate that Buddy and I came together yesterday for two reasons:

1) Homeward Bound was one of my favorite movies as a kid, which had a golden retriever  in it (his name was Shadow — and he was precious)

2) August 26th (yesterday) is National Dog Day.

What are the odds? It was like the stars aligned.

So Buddy has officially won the best ‘Obsession of the Week’ award. Here are some photos for you to oogle at :)

The Weary Traveler

Have you ever been in the scenario of having to travel through multiple airports in a short period of time? The gypsy lifestyle making you forget whether home is a place or just your suitcase? If you readers out there answered yes, I totally feel your pain!

I am currently dealing with that very situation: where is home and why am I stuck re-wearing a small set of clothes??!!. Within the past month I have gone from London to Ireland, and back again. Then I went from London to San Diego. This past week was San Diego to Oregon (via Seattle because airlines are slightly crazy) and now I patiently (yea right!) sit inside Portland airport waiting for my plane back to San Diego. And to top of the never ending feeling of living out of a suitcase and not knowing where I am when I wake up in the middle of the night, I am moving next month. Who knew life as a college student would be so transient!

I don’t know about any of you out there, but this is not a lifestyle choice I would easily jump into. I feel terrible for flight attendants, pilots, and other airline personnel must be so confused as to what the concept of “home” feels like.

This trip to Oregon was a chance to visit with my parents, one of my sisters, and her family. It has been close to a year since I was last home, and almost 4 years since I saw my sister Stephanie or her husband and kids. This brief trip made me realize how much (please excuse the following cliche) “home is where the heart is.” Despite the fact that I did miss “home” I realized that it truly does not matter where you are, but who is there.

I look forward to coming home because of who I get to see and memories that can be shared from the past with those who matter most. Even though I’m sure that I will wake up tonight in a panic wondering how I got back to San Diego, the trip was completely worth it.

So, I ask you out there who have suffered from this “weary traveler” condition, let me know what kinds of things help you stay grounded (pun intended, of course!). Maybe you travel with a stuffed animal or photo of your family. Or maybe, coming home and visiting a certain person or location helps you to feel settled again. Let me know in the comments section, I’d love to hear your stories!

Until next time weary travelers, drink lots of fluids & snuggle up with an itchy airplane blanket while you dream of home…

Sun Filled and Fun Filled

Wow, it has been far too long since I got on my blog. The past month has been absolutely jam-packed with moving and work, and driving! I am officially back in California, which is amazing. I am loving being back at work at Tiny Prints, and spending time with my sister, brother-in-law, and nieces.  I finally saw Eclipse (the third movie in the Twilight saga) and I’ve officially decided it is the best movie of the saga so far, and I’m desperately hoping to see it again, because waiting for DVD will just be too hard.  What team are you on bloggers/readers? I’m personally a fan of team Emmett! Kellan Lutz is so pretty :)

I don’t have any photos to post at the moment, but they will be coming soon.  I’ve finally started that summer reading list (well I started last night) that I posted before, I’m about 1/3 of the way through Dear John, and I’m loving it.  It’s taken some serious mental effort to get the movie out of my head…always the problem with seeing the movie before reading the book!  Have you bloggers been reading this summer? Tell me what books your interested in,  in the comments, I’m always looking for good reads! (even if it does take me a  lifetime to get around to actually starting the book!)  I’m trying to think about what else has been going on since I last posted something on my blog…. Ooooh, I can’t believe I forgot! Spain won the World Cup! How exciting is that?  I didn’t stick to my resolution to watch every game, but I watched a few, and of course, the very last game.

Anyway, bloggers & readers, I hope you are having a fun summer, and getting out into the sun (safely, of course), and spending time with friends and family… preferably around a BBQ!

p.s. the photo is one of many to come from my trip to the San Francisco Zoo!

Nothing Comes Close to the Golden Coast…

Well Blogging World, it is official, only 9 more days until I head to California to start work at Tiny Prints again.  Well, lucky for me (and I am being serious) I get to make the 9 hour drive all by myself.  Now, this may seem crazy to any sane person, but let me tell you: I LOVE ROAD TRIPS! Of course, it is a lot of fun to go with other people, but after a stressful quarter of classes and the challenge of choosing a different college for next year, I could use 9 hours to just sit and zone (while watching my speedometer of course).  The only reason that this long drive is bearable, and in my mind, enjoyable, is that thanks to the joys of technology, I can make playlists (instead of mix cds or tapes) on my ipod.  Yes bloggers, I will admit, I am that crazy girl driving down the freeway screaming at the top of her lungs in her car (p.s. I suck at singing, so it is best when nobody else is in the car).  I am okay with this, its a great tension reliever!  So, despite the fact that I really should be studying for my last final of sophomore year (I have 13 hours left before the test), I am instead creating playlists of the best road trip songs. So far one song that must be on the playlist–and is the reason for the title of this post–is, “California Gurls” by Katy Perry because it is so incredibly appropriate—I am a California girl through and through, and I absolutely love this song because it reminds me of being home in the sunshine.  I also plan on including some songs by Journey, Taio Cruz, OneRepublic, Carrie Underwood, B.o.B., Glee, and Brad Paisley. My gauge of a successful road trip is how hoarse my voice is when I get to my destination.  As always, I would love to get feedback in the comments. What are your favorite ‘car songs’? Is there any one band/song/genre that you have to (or for that matter cannot) listen to when you are driving? Let me know :)

Bye Bye Beavers

Megan & Dad at OSU Football Game with Benny the Beaver

Today is the last day of classes here at Oregon State for the Spring term (although there are still finals next week). This is so exciting, today is my very last time attending class on this campus, but I am still trying to figure out where I will be in the Fall. It is insane that I have already completed my first two years of college! Graduation from high school seems like yesterday, and yet here I am, about to embark on yet another journey: moving to back California and switching to an entirely new college! I wish today was pretty and warm so I could treasure my last day, but alas (as per typical Oregon) it is wet, cold, and windy–honestly, its June, what the heck?!

Well bloggers, I will be very busy the next two weeks, so I may not get to post much, but please keep the comments rolling, I love to hear what people thing of my blog (p.s. there is a poll in the link bar–it’s only 1 question, it won’t take you long).

“Hail to Old OSU”

OSU, our hats are off to you
Beavers, Beavers, fighters through and through
We’ll root for every man, we’ll cheer for every stand
That’s made for old OSU.
Watch our team go tearing down the field
Men of iron, their strength will never yield.
Hail, hail, hail, hail
Hail to old OSU.
