Visionary. Genius. Artist. Steve Jobs.

Today the world lost one of my biggest inspirations: Steve Jobs. The ex-CEO of Apple (a favorite company of mine) passed away today, and I can honestly say that the world took it hard.

Whether you own an iPod, iPhone, iPad, Macbook, or any other Apple product, you are a part of the biggest, most successful companies in the technology business. The drive to create products that were better, faster, and more beautiful was largely due to Steve’s dedication to the company.

My Musical Cubicle

Hey Bloggers,

So as you may know if you have read my blog before, I am a total music junkie.  I am always keeping my ears open for a good song (mostly because I have music A.D.D and I have troubles listening to a song for more than a minute).  I really love to make mixes due in part to the fact that when I use “shuffle” on my iPod, I tend to end up listening to songs I absolutely hate (yes, I could take these off of my iPod, but that just seems like a lot of work).  So because I have this passion for creating different playlists, I wanted to share my most recent one with all of you (I think it turned out really well).  As a side note, most of my playlists/mixes have a certain “feel” to them, for example, really upbeat songs are usually what I use to work out to, so if a mellow or sad song slips in, the whole mood is ruined for me.  On that note, I’m not entirely sure how to describe the mood that this particular mix evokes, but I will do my best.

The songs in this mix are a combination of alternative and pop songs.  The “feel” of them together creates (for me) the perfect environment for me while I am at work.  I don’t know about you all, but I am allowed to bring my iPod to work (thank goodness), but there are some songs that are just not conducive to working at a computer.  Side note:  I have a good friend, who shall not be named (but you know who you are), who thinks I’m a little bit crazy for saying that there are “computer songs”, “car songs”, “workout songs”, etc….but for me, music has to mesh with what I am doing, otherwise things get ugly! :)

So, bloggers, here is my new favorite playlist for while I am at work (I think it might work for homework as well…which will be starting up again way too soon).  Let me know what you think in the comments (the link is at the top of the post), and as always let me know if you have any new songs (or old) that you would like to share with me. An important side note:  these songs does not fully represent the type of music that I like, I really enjoy a variety, this mix simply flows together well–if you suggest music, please don’t suggest a ton of alternative & pop, I like lots of music! :D

Nothing Comes Close to the Golden Coast…

Well Blogging World, it is official, only 9 more days until I head to California to start work at Tiny Prints again.  Well, lucky for me (and I am being serious) I get to make the 9 hour drive all by myself.  Now, this may seem crazy to any sane person, but let me tell you: I LOVE ROAD TRIPS! Of course, it is a lot of fun to go with other people, but after a stressful quarter of classes and the challenge of choosing a different college for next year, I could use 9 hours to just sit and zone (while watching my speedometer of course).  The only reason that this long drive is bearable, and in my mind, enjoyable, is that thanks to the joys of technology, I can make playlists (instead of mix cds or tapes) on my ipod.  Yes bloggers, I will admit, I am that crazy girl driving down the freeway screaming at the top of her lungs in her car (p.s. I suck at singing, so it is best when nobody else is in the car).  I am okay with this, its a great tension reliever!  So, despite the fact that I really should be studying for my last final of sophomore year (I have 13 hours left before the test), I am instead creating playlists of the best road trip songs. So far one song that must be on the playlist–and is the reason for the title of this post–is, “California Gurls” by Katy Perry because it is so incredibly appropriate—I am a California girl through and through, and I absolutely love this song because it reminds me of being home in the sunshine.  I also plan on including some songs by Journey, Taio Cruz, OneRepublic, Carrie Underwood, B.o.B., Glee, and Brad Paisley. My gauge of a successful road trip is how hoarse my voice is when I get to my destination.  As always, I would love to get feedback in the comments. What are your favorite ‘car songs’? Is there any one band/song/genre that you have to (or for that matter cannot) listen to when you are driving? Let me know :)

Here are some of my top picks for the drive (quite a few of them are oldies but goodies!):

Inconsolable by Backstreet Boys

Speeding Cars by Imogen Heap

Halo/Walking on Sunshine by Glee

Last Train Home by Ryan Star

California Gurls by Katy Perry

Waka Waka by Shakira

Summer Reading

Hello Blog World,

It’s been too long since I posted something, and because tonight is a joyous occasion I thought, why not blog about it!  What’s tonight you may ask? Well my answer will completely make my age and status in life quite obvious.  My amazing news is that I finished my 7 page history paper that has been staring at me saying, “MEGAN YOU HAVE TO GET AN A, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, WHY IS YOUR PAGE STILL BLANK?”  I know this not exciting for anyone else, but trust me it feels FANTASTIC!  The books that I used to write my paper were of course history books, but they were actually on my favorite history topic: World War 2.  I swear I’m not sadistic, I just cannot fathom the idea that, not all that long ago people like Hitler and Stalin were in control–it fascinates me.  If you are looking for a good history book (for whatever reason) I suggest checking out the ones I read: Everyday Stalinism by Sheila Fitzpatrick and Backing Hitler by Robert Gellately.  On the note of reading, this week I decided that I was in desperate need of some good reading material for the summer.  The picture above is what I plan on doing during my free time this summer: reading and listening to my iPod—the best combination in the world!  Don’t judge me on the books I picked (list below), I know they are primarily really girly, romantic fluffy stuff, but who needs dense reading during the summer especially when I do a TON of reading during the school year of stuff I hardly ever enjoy.  So bloggers, what is your favorite summertime activity? Leave comments below! :D

Hanging with my iPod…

Photo by: Megan Elizabeth Eilers; Album Cover: Ariel Winter

Hello World,

So I’m just hanging out waiting for my next class and of course, as is always the case, I am listening to my iPod.  The song I’m listening to right now is called, “Banished,” by Ariel Winter.  This up and coming young actress/singer has amazing talent, she writes her own songs (that can be found on iTunes) she is also on the ABC show, Modern Family–which is HILARIOUS! Did I mention she is only 12? Makes me feel a little pathetic at 20, but way to go Ariel!  My best friend, Tyler, lived down the street from the starlet, so he always informs me about her new music and acting roles. I love feeling connected to celebrities (so what that I haven’t met her). :D  Hope everyone has fun plans for the upcoming weekend, I know I’m looking forward to seeing my parents in Bend, where the forecast is looking positive (aka SUNNY!).
