Obsession of the Week | United State of Pop 2012 (Shine Brighter)

It’s that time again…. time for a new mashup from DJ Earworm! Last year I posted about the United State of Pop 2011 which was good, but this year’s is even better! You can check out the download on SoundCloud here.

As much as I do truly love the audio versions of all of DJ Earworm’s mashups, the most impressive thing he does is creating the videos to go along with the mixes. To time the videos of each song so accurately is truly a work of art. To check out his video for the United State of Pop 2012, click on the picture below or here. (you may notice that I’ve taken a screen shot of my favorite band in the video: Fun)

Screen Shot 2013-01-02 at 6.51.03 PMI love these mashups because they’re always so upbeat and just make you want to dance. It certainly helps that I absolutely love all the songs that he included this year. I mean I blogged about three of them in the last few months alone!

Obsession of the Week | It’s a 10

On my never-ending quest for silky smooth hair, I’ve found one more product that helps achieve TV commercial-quality hair.  A few weeks ago my friend Chelsea told me about a product that she started using in the hopes of restoring her hair’s healthy shine and sleekness.

So, last time I ventured into Safeway and saw it in the beauty aisle I said to myself, “why not? It’s not like it is going to make my hair look MORE dry.” Well, I’m glad I took the plunge, my hair looks and feels drastically better. So what is this miracle hair product? It’s called “It’s a 10” Miracle Leave-in Plus Keratin.

As it turns out, It’s a 10 has lots of products in their hair care lineup. I haven’t tried any of the other items, but I would definitely suggest the leave-in plus keratin. It couldn’t be simpler — spray it all over your hair after a quick towel dry. I’ve been using it every time I wash my hair for the last week or so and I’m definitely loving the change.

I think one of the greatest aspects of this is the product acts as a heat protectant in addition to nourishing your hair, so I’ve been using just one product (not counting the finishing touch of hairspray) instead of layering on creams, mousse, etc to achieve the look I want during styling.

As for where to purchase this (or any of the It’s a 10 line) I’ve seen it at Safeway, CVS, and Peninsula Beauty, therefore I assume it’s available wherever you normally purchase your hair care products. I believe I paid somewhere around $15 for the smaller bottle (4 oz I think).

If you’ve tried any of the It’s a 10 products, let me know what you think and if I should try any of them!!

Obsession of the Week | Dating Rules From My Future Self

Anyone who knows me (or reads my blog regularly) knows how much I absolutely love The Vampire Diaries. Well, the actress who plays Caroline (Candice Accola) is this season’s main character on a new show called “Dating Rules from My Future Self.”

Dating Rules is a web series created by Alloy Entertainment (the same creators of great things like Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, etc…).  There are two “seasons” of the show, which is comprised of 10-ish minute episodes. I’ve officially watched all of them and am quite anxious for new ones to come out.

The premise is pretty funny — the main character of each season communicates via text and FaceTime with an older version of herself. Grown up versions of the characters provide advice about how to navigate the crazy world of dating.

The first season, the main character was actress Shiri Appleby, who a few people may recognize from the CW show Life Unexpected (another show I loved, that unfortunately met its demise after only 2 seasons).

So far, season 2 has been pretty funny with Candice as the main character.  From her “margarita maker” (a blender) named José, to her problematic addiction to Cheetos, Candice’s character Chloe is simply hilarious.

Overall, Dating Rules from My Future Self definitely has some great humor written into it, particularly because they include some of the comical aspects of living life in the modern age where having “The Jimmy Song” posted on your Facebook wall is thought to be the most humiliating thing that could happen to a 20-something!

Obsession of the Week | Buddy

well blogging world, my obsession of the week is my newest family member: Buddy.

Buddy is blonde, has brown eyes, and is fluffy all over.

Yes, that’s right Buddy is a golden retriever.

Originally Buddy came from a Los Angeles animal shelter, but I got him from Homeward Bound Golden Retriever in Elverta.  He also had a strange name: Isis — obviously that had to go.

Anyway…

it seemed like fate that Buddy and I came together yesterday for two reasons:

1) Homeward Bound was one of my favorite movies as a kid, which had a golden retriever  in it (his name was Shadow — and he was precious)

2) August 26th (yesterday) is National Dog Day.

What are the odds? It was like the stars aligned.

So Buddy has officially won the best ‘Obsession of the Week’ award. Here are some photos for you to oogle at :)

Obsession of the Week | Contigo Travel Mug

Hi all!

Apologies for being so slow on getting my posts up.  I’ve spent the last few weeks/weekends packing, moving, unpacking and of course, working.  Fortunately, during that time I’ve been keeping track of stuff to blog about, so have no fear posts are coming soon!

Currently, my obsession of the week year is my new Contigo brand travel mug.

This bottle is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I have been using it for both coffee and water throughout my day and it is fantastic.  The description on the website doesn’t lie — it really does keep hot stuff hot for 6 hours and keeps cold stuff cold for 20 hours.  This morning I woke up (at 8:20am) to ice-cold water that still contained actual ice cubes.  Keep in mind that I put ice cubes in it at 7pm last night — that’s insane! The best part: ABSOLUTELY NO CONDENSATION — one of my biggest pet peeves about most water bottles.

Anyway, I know it’s only a travel mug (for coffee, water, whatever), but it is totally worth every cent of the $25.  There is only one downside and that is the fact that only the lid is dishwasher safe (the bottle itself must be hand-washed), but if you are only using it for water, you can get away with not washing it everyday.

I would highly suggest this bottle or pretty much any other Contigo item because they make really high-quality items that will be a vital part of your everyday life!

Obsession of the Week | Greek Yogurt Trail Mix

Hello all, hope your Sunday morning is going well!

I just wanted to write a brief Obsession of the Week post about a fun new snack I came across at Costco last week.

The snack is WildRoots brand greek yogurt trail mix.  You can see what the bag looks like below.

Now I’m not necessarily a huge trail mix fan — they usually just make me thirsty — but this mix is absolutely delicious.  The greek yogurt chips give it a little sweetness. the two types of almonds give it a great crunch, and the dried fruit isn’t too overpowering like many trail mix dried fruit can be (in my opinion).

Anywho, if you are a trail mix fan or maybe just need a fresh idea for a snack to take to school or work, I suggest checking this out!

Obsession of the Week | Ho Hey

2012 is a great year for Internet-related commericals apparently.  First we had the IE9 commercial with Alex Clare’s Too Close (which I already blogged about) and now we have a Bing commercial with an awesome song by The Lumineers.

Ho Hey” is definitely a feel good kind of song.  The lyrics for this song almost act as background to the melody, so I’ve yet to really listen to them — I have absolutely no idea what this song is about — time for a little Googling later this afternoon.

The marketing team at Bing did a great job timing the song within the commercial, not to mention including all those wonderful pictures of Hawaii. I mean who doesn’t like Hawaii?! :)

In other news… I’m in the midst of packing like a wild-woman. This was how I caught up on some TV shows this morning over coffee.

Hulu. On top of a box.

Yep, that’s my life.
