Fun Finds | Running Playlist

While perusing the interweb I came across a fellow WordPress blog: Whale You Be My Friend.

Kayla, the author of this blog, has some great insight into all things design, including things like fashion and home decor.  Her entries are all really great, but one particular posting caught my eye: 100 Awesome Running Songs.

p.s. I love that Kayla used Nina Dobrev for her image — I can’t wait for The Vampire Diaries to come back on!

I am always a sucker for good music — even more so when it is put into a really well thought out playlist, but I have also recently decided I’d like to start running again.

Having played sports growing up I was always required to run (eventually enjoying it), but since those days came to a close and  my life is no longer consumed by college it’s time to get back into the swing of things.  I found this really awesome chart on Pinterest that seemed like a great way to get back into running.

Let’s hope I can actually stick to this game plan! Motivational comments are always welcome :)

Anywhoo…

The running playlist has a fantastic mix of artists, tempos, etc.  Kanye, Britney, Rihanna, P!nk and so many others… it really makes for a fun list of songs, and 100 different songs on shuffle allows for endless combinations and rhythms while working out.

I don’t know Kayla, but from her choice of music (evident in the running mix) and her choice of TV shows (seen in this post) I think she and I would be great friends — tv and music are hugely representative of who people are.

Stanford: Home of Champions

Just had to make a quick post about how proud I am to be a Stanford Cardinal fan tonight. Tonight was their 16th win in a row and they beat (in triple over time) USC!! Woohoo!! A big thanks to this guy:

Fun Finds | Oregon State Football Video

Regardless of where you come from, what schools you attended, or whether or not you truly like sports, almost all of us have some sort of attachment to a certain team for one reason or another.  For many U.S. citizens pro-football, baseball, basketball, etc.. is their choice, but I believe there is something even more special about college teams.

For those of you who have followed my blog for a while, you may remember that I transferred colleges between my sophomore and junior years (a decision that was challenging on so many levels).  My first college was Oregon State University, a Pac-12 school that is very proud of their sports teams.  There was a camaraderie that formed between all the students, parents, and alumni on game days.  Even if you didn’t know the people next to you, the common goal of wanting the Beavs to take the win was enough to create a bond for those few hours in the stands.

Despite the fact that I am a diehard Stanford Cardinal fan (and will be, ’til death do us part), there is a part of me that will forever be an OSU fan too.  When a former Beaver acquaintance of mine posted the following video on Facebook I just couldn’t help but feel that same sense of school pride that I once had while attending classes in Corvallis.  That is why this video is my Fun Find for the week.

As I thought about the combination of powerful words, upbeat music, and images of the players in that video, I realized how sad it is to no longer have that strong sense of school pride on a daily basis. The University of San Diego isn’t exactly known for its teams or school spirit, so that bond that Oregon State alumni hold onto for life, is definitely not something I will be experiencing after graduation from USD.  As much as I enjoy being a Torero, I do miss the OSU family.

So now, tell me…how many of you out there reading this post have some school pride/spirit for a certain college? Did you attend the school or are you simply a  “locavore” when it comes to your sports like I am with Stanford (i.e. liking it because it is the local/regional place you are attached to)?  If you are reading this and are simply a pro-sport follower and don’t understand the love of college sports, why? Leave me some comment love in the comments section below letting me know all about your fave sports teams, experiences, or other inspirational videos!
